Every morning about 8:00 a.m., I've been up since 5:00 and I decide, I can't go on. I've been fighting since 1968, and all that millions of us accomplished has been flushed down Trump's evil toilet. I want a horse tranquilizer, I want a jug of whiskey, sober 10 years. I just want to be comfortably numb! THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE, FOR LIFTING ME UP, FOR PUTTING SOME FIGHT BACK IN ME! KEEP IT COMING. PLEASE ‼️

Robin, don’t give up. Be the good example. I sympathize because I feel the same way most days.

Thank you Deborah. I know I'm not in this fight alone, I won't give up!

I've been fighting since Grant Park in Chicago in 1968, AND I'M FUCKING PISSED!

We should be the best country in the world by now. Our citizens should be happy and healthy, well educated and reasonably comfortable. There is no excuse for where we are except for greed and voter apathy.

When the enemy we fought so long does fall it is usually sudden and enveloped in a silence as we look up from the battlefield and see the fog lift and all we defended still there. Anyone who is wiped out is like a soldier downed by a bullet. Get off the field and heal. We will hold the fort. If you are wiped out you have been hit for the enemy's weapon is to tire us out to the point of collapse. Each of us must take care of ourselves and our families. Do something today for you and then continue each day to do it again, for you. Take a break.

Great advice! I'll take it! Thank you!

I've also been fighting since 1968. Joined the civil Rights movement, protested the war. I'm tired, but I will never give up or give in! Thank you

Read TBS, and Qasim Rashid, and Mark Mansour, and Trygve Hammer, and Lucas Kunce, and several others. Contact me for support. Do not relapse. The cavalry is coming. It's in the courts now, and it will manifest itself big time in '26. We're all going to get hurt first, but we'll survive. Did you read the Sen Brian Schatz "New Yorker" piece linked at the end of Note 2? I agree with Chris Ortolano that Fetterman does not get a pass, but even he's waking up.

You can go on. We all have to go on. We will get a plumber to clean out the toilet, and put Donnie in it instead.

Most of the world knows that you are right. Honestly you are not alone. Your words and fight give others like me hope. It never ends well for people like Trump Voght and Musk Bannon or Millar. Their card is marked. Keep writing.

It is so hard. We feel your pain and don't you go anywhere. It is distressing that, as a boomer woman, we are fighting the same damned fights for 50 years now! I know many of the younger generations, for all our misunderstandings at time, care about many of the things we have fought for since our teens. In many cases they don't even know because they only see the greedy, evil boomers on the front pages. If we just work together we could stop this madness but it needs to be now while we are still here to join with them and them with us.

your health first -- step back from here -- reach out for support -- make a call -- meet with people -- please do not surrender -- you are a beautiful person -- we will hold the fort -- take the time to heal and regain all you fought so hard for which is your serenity -- God bless you

mElon keeps claiming that he needs to make all sorts of cuts to the government because there's a N-Billion-dollar debt.

Gee, how else could we get lots and lots of money into the government. Hey, I know, let's make those super rich tax evaders PAY THEIR DAMN TAXES.

mElon: And I'm dismantling the IRS's Dept of Going After Rich People.

Let the Oligarchs fund themselves. They can afford it. They don't need my tax money, and I do, so I'm keeping it.

Expand full comment

Mr Gilbert, the difference between people like you and me, and oligarchs, is that you and I value this country, and are frankly proud to assume our roles in contributing to its welfare by paying taxes.

Cruelty never really left, having Biden as president just forced it underground.

Fetterman does NOT get a pass for sometimes doing the right thing; fuck him.

Expand full comment

Yes there has always been cruelty but I really don't believe on this level, in this volume. Pockets here and there, not entire government administrations full of them. The human race seems intent on self-destructing.

Expand full comment

There is no "low" for how far the cruelty will go. How do these (I hesitate to use the word people) fuckbrains ever sleep? Wait, they have no souls, so they just curl up in a dark place and wait for night to come so they can climb out and wreak havoc.

I'm not even sure what they think they are going to win. How does tearing down a nation make their lives better? They aren't all going to wake up billionaires and they wouldn't have the discipline to manage it anyway especially if we aren't around to make the products/widgets & provide the services that feed their bank accounts. It really is a whole new level of lunacy.

Expand full comment

There's no "low" for how far they'd like the cruelty to go, but the low has been reached as to how far the rest of US government will let it go. The courts are awakening, and growing pairs. For all I know, maybe the SCOTUS will even wake up. Our biggest problem now is the terrified Congresspeople who can't bring themselves to say "no" to these grossly nonsensical nominees. The one and only ambition of Congresspeople is to get re-elected, and stay on the government tit, or some other tit, for the balance of their careers. So if they think Donnie and Elon can sink them, they get very timid and accommodating. It's been a very long time since JFK wrote "Profiles in Courage." The latter is in breathtakingly short supply now. But if even Fetterman is starting to question this insanity, then maybe some of the rest, possibly even principled Reps, will, too.

I wrote to Fetterman yesterday, said for someone who almost died of a stroke, you sure don't have much compassion for the trauma you are putting other sick & marginalized people. Told him we are disgusted with him and btw, how big was the check he received?

May I propose those of us who want to unseat Republicans act now and donate to campaigns across state lines. It is no longer a game of looking at our own backyards. There are three empty seats right now. Florida and NY and one other -- cannot recall sorry -- send a few dollars if you can it will help so much but also bolsters the candidate who is taking on the Republicans. If we can flip all three seats in Congress, the health of our democracy will improve. It may break the fever and current path of steady and rapid decline.

We have spent $7.7 billion in one week on DOGE. The government is currently on track to spend about $58.4 billion on international assistance programs in the 2025 fiscal year. That means musk will only need about seven weeks to use as much money USAID. And now Trump wants to turn Gaza into the Riviera, a nice ballroom for the White House, spend spend spend. They are spending it as fast as they are supposedly cutting it.

I just watched the movie "I'm Still Here" which was based on what actually happened in Brazil when extremists in the government were given free reign to imprison, torture, and kill dissidents - and we think something like that can't happen here? It already is. Don't be heartened by judges preventing temporarily some of Trump's extreme actions. They will be replaced. And STOP focusing on Musk - he is Trump's puppet. Why isn't the media giving publicity to all the demonstrations of people across the country objecting to what is happening to our democracy? Never mind - you and I already know the answer to that. Plus, I hope that all the fools who voted for Trump, and all those who did not vote at all, feel the pain of what Trump is doing. GA
