I worked the polls in AZ. We were constantly busy, no lag times, I only got two breaks from 6AM till 8:30 PM. People waited hours in line, and yeah, we had cops in the parking lot to make sure someone didn't do stupid shit like the night before when some kid carjacked a fellow worker at gunpoint. We were still counting ballots at 11PM.-- mind you, our day started at 5AM. So it really pisses me off that she didn't win, that the misogynist/racists/ignorant dipshits did, and that so many people didn't even care about what Project 2025 is going to do to them. I'd say they deserve it but it's going to probably kill me too with the end of the ACA and Medicare. Two bouts of cancer and a ripped up shoulder is going to make me totally uninsurable for the rest of my life. Thanks, American Nazis and as they say, a heartfelt fuck you. But you know what? Old women helped organize the Resistance in Europe during WWII and we are not going back.

I'm in the same boat -- in a cancer battle and looking at losing my health insurance as soon as they kill Obamacare. I'm stage IV metastatic, so basically I have the mother of all preconditions. In all likelihood, Nov. 5 was a death sentence for me.

Which really sucks. I've fought so hard to live. Hardly anyone else would have made it this far, let alone be in this kind of shape. And now it's almost certainly going to be torn away from me.

None of which bothers the Trumpsters, of course. Some of them are positively gleeful about it (always remember: the cruelty is the point). But I wonder how much they'll be gloating when they find out how many of their friends, family and loved ones -- or themselves -- are getting affordable insurance, or insurance at all, thanks to the ACA.

My heart feels for you. I am grateful I got thru the worst of cancer (so far) while we still have Medicare. I am whole and I still have my home.

I just keep trying to tell myself that at least we experienced a different America, especially if white to be honest. While never perfect, most of us could play outside, enjoy the natural world, not live in fear of being shot at school or church or while buying groceries. It makes me unspeakably sad that so many won’t even get a chance at that life.

Awful, isn't it? And to see a generation just let it slip away for ... nothing. Just some dude they know from TV.

I take no joy in knowing the relentless schooling of the University of FAFO comes next. The suffering and misery we've set in motion is a disproportionately high tuition to pay for the education it will provide, assuming anyone takes the right lessons from it to begin with.

But it's coming. And you're right, it's incredibly sad.

Kevin, sending you all the peace and love vibes I can muster. All it will take for the gloaters to get a wake up call is one serious diagnosis and their insurance company dropping them or doubling their premiums. Keep fighting; I lost a dear friend 3 weeks after her Stage Four dx, so keep enjoying the sunshine. xoxo

Thank you, Jude! I don't give in. So, I'll do whatever I can, in any way I can, for as long as I can. So, rest assured, your good vibes are much appreciated and won't go to waste. ❤️

I’m right there with you, friend. Medicare saved my life and saved me from bankruptcy when the cancer diagnosis hit.

I guess our consolation prize will be the memory of living in a democracy, even though we’ve never really attained the standards we should have. The GOP will be busy deleting history from the schoolbooks.

Thank you for confessing how angry you are. It helps because I am in the same boat and attempting to keep my thoughts and spirit from going where they want to go. I have a sister in Arizona who used to be a kind and considerate and anti-climate change and pro-inclusion kind of person and she has become extreme MAGA and very ugly. And she has always been my favorite person on earth and I am grappling with her embrace of fascism. And for a long while I made excuses for her but I know I can't do that anymore.

How do we keep the fight going? Read!

Read about other strongman/tyrant regimes and how people fought back or at least kept freedom alive. Read banned books if you can get them. Tell the stories to your children, because these books may be buried eventually. Learn about the resilience of movements and how to deal with narcissists, gaslighting, disinformation, psycho-marketing and bullies, as there seem to be more out there. Learn how to survive off the land as federal funds will probably disappear.

As a Boomer who grew up with a covert Nazi father, that’s what I did and survived on my terms. But this may be the last fight I can do for you, so now you need to pick up the reins, teach history with stories (easier to remember) and believe in the truth. It may take two generations, but tyrants eventually fail.

The only thing Kamala was missing, to win this election, was a penis. Not exactly in her power though she did have some balls, god love her. Even a general told Bob Woodward she is smart and tough. Truly America’s loss...and the world’s.

And I sincerely hope the Latinos and others who “didn’t think Trump was talking to them” are first in line for the FAFO train. I’m a bit short on big-heartedness right now.

Oh and Merrick Garland can truly go fuck himself.

Expand full comment

I blame Merrick Garland for sitting on his fucking hands for 2 years? This was Biden’s only mistake. I hope Jack smith looks to reject garland which Joyce Vance said it would help and he puts all the evidence in a place for safe keeping so it can’t be destroyed.

They are both as good as fired and Jack needs to hie himelf to Europe where his services are needed and wanted before Trump has him arrested or murdered. Putin will be expanding his wars soon. Allegedly they are saving the evidence for later but the trump loyalists who replace them will burn all that.

I got a safe place if they need it. There’s ways to hide it where it wouldn’t be found.

The picture that immediately came into my head was some rebel band of historians & investigators, trying to uncover the true American history, in the distant future, and finding a box rusted shut, full of documents and flash drives.

Do you realize how many caves are in the Appalachian mountains? I’m in the N GA portion but there’s so many caves, caverns, waterfalls over caverns it would take years to find the stash. With it being cool in them it’s a natural preservative.

I hope Jack gets out of this failing country fast. He’s number 2 (with momala being first) of the jackboots’ agenda.

Is it me, or does something just not add up. Literally. We saw record turnouts across the nation, according to the news. Yet Trump had 71 million votes, similar to his vote in 2020. Yet Kamala Harris only has 66 million compared to 82 million for Joe Biden.

So where is the record turn out? It doesn't match the overall votes counted. If 82 million was the norm in 2020, how can we have record turnouts, yet a lower total of voters voting BLUE? I smell RIGGED election.

That's potentially 15.5 million missing from 7 swing states? It is not possible to have a record turnout and not at least match the totals from 2020. Everyone is automatically accepting of the results, even though we have been warned of ballot manipulation in these swing states.

Everyone is just bitching and playing Monday night quarterback regarding what Kamala did wrong. Nobody seems to be adding up the numbers. Literally. Something doesn't seem to add up. And I am not surprised that the media has turned a blind eye to this fact.

I don’t know. Was there less mail in ballots and more people voting in person? I had heard that a lot of Bernie supporters didn’t show up to vote. But I do agree that they said there was record turnout. Is that including mail in ballots because if you could know that, then the math doesn’t add up. The media can go f-themselves because even if they knew, they wouldn’t say a word.

Sal, I personally waited 2 hours in line to get into the building to vote. The line lasted all day long. Never in the history of my community has there ever been a line.

We heard the media talk about "Record turnout". But now they are down playing it all. Agree on your assesement of the Main Stream media.

To me, the math doesn’t make sense. I know there are more people out there wondering how is that possible that he actually won and won the popular vote…makes no sense.

Let's not fall into a pit of self-pity, hatred, and disgust. Let's pick ourselves up and get our country back. There are so many good and great elected officials in office now at all levels. Let's get more of them elected and right the ship of state. And, let's all get engaged in our local and state governments - speak out, speak up, show up at meetings, make phone calls, and contribute whatever other skills you have to making things better. Please take care of yourselves - we all need each other.

I think a bit of hatred and disgust is warranted right now. We are all grieving and angry and rightfully so since we will also suffer from what our fellow citizens have done. Some of us have been fighting this fight for 50 years. We’re tired. So give us a minute, please.

I know. I just happened to be out in my carport this morning where the walls are partially covered with bumper stickers I won’t put on my car (but supported the cause). Most were from 2020...AltNPS, Alt this, Resist that, Vote 2020. It was a disappointing reminder. And then there were the pussy hats. For what?

I still can’t wrap my head around the fact Trump actually got slightly fewer votes than in 2020, but still won. And by a lot.

She did all she could. People just didn't care. That's really, really sad.

Biden needs to do more than help Ukraine in the next 75 days. He needs to give American a long list of things that, if Trump and Musk try to take them away, they will face an insurrection they will not be able to withstand. Line of those executive orders and challenge the courts and Trump to turn them away. Everybody make their lame duck gift list that makes the working class greater than the oligarchy. Now!

It is so so so hard to let the shock and pain in. I have said it before. But it bears repeating. Grateful to you guys and this newsletter. I do not see a path forward. I think the only way to keep my sanity is to not take in the daily horror show that will be the firehose of outrage coming our way. I agree. GET VACCINATED. STOCK UP ON MEDICATIONS YOU RELY ON. Covid provides a roadmap of how much we will be on our own with whatever comes next. Trust and rely on the people in your communities. Be prepared to help yourselves and each other. You can trust and rely on what exists in your own small reality because none of us can control, effect, or trust what used to be the ground beneath our feet. I wish I had anything more useful to say.

How did this happen to our Great Country. I am embarrassed and ashamed for our Country. A running President SHOULD have to take a thorough Physical exam because Trump is mentally unfit to run our Country. So I could go on and on but I will just say anyone that Voted for this asshole piece of shit don't you DARE complain about anything he does or I will gladly slap you in the face. I would have paid $10 for a dozen eggs if it would have keep TRUMP out of the white house. God Save Our Country!!!
