Silver linings and suckiness
It’s Wednesday. The day after Election Day. History in the U.S. Senate, Russia attacks and America kinda sucks right now.
Be advised: This newsletter uses profanity. Today that needs no explanation.
Note: Hi, Sexy Patriots. We’re not gonna ask how you’re doing. We know. We are too. Lots and lots of us are. You’re not alone. We know that’s not a huge comfort right now, but there are still a whole shitload of us who didn’t just sell out every single American ideal and likely doom us to the end of this grand experiment.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKK!!!!!!!
We know for so many of you this result raises questions about how safe or comfortable you can feel in this country. It breaks our hearts into a million goddamn pieces to even contemplate that. The reality is this fucking blows, and there’s no claiming otherwise. Frankly, we’re not sure what else to say about it. But that doesn’t mean we plan on shutting up. Oh hell no.
We have no idea what’s next. Right now we’re pretty fucking down. We don’t know if there’s even a path out of this shitstorm. But the one thing we do know is that we’re not gonna surrender. That’s just not ever gonna happen. So we’ll be here cussing and mocking that orange piece of crap every dang day until he locks us up. Although we’ll probably take off a few days to be furious and sad and do elaborate anger dances in the woods.
For today, we’re not doing a full edition. It’s just too goddamn depressing. But what we are doing is highlighting some of the wins we had last night. We lost a lot, but we haven’t lost everything just yet. Probably. We love y’all, and we’re sending you a great big hug.
Note two: Congratulations to Josh Stein, the governor-elect of North Carolina. Shockingly Democrats did very well in the state except for at the top of the ticket. But at least we beat the “Black Nazi.” More: CNN
Note three: Outside of Florida, Nebraska and South Dakota, abortion rights measures had a good night. Montana, Colorado, New York, Maryland, Nevada, Arizona and Missouri all approved measures that either protect abortion rights or repeal strict limits. So we were kinda right that it was a powerful issue. More: CNN
Note four: Vouchers for charter schools had a shitty night. They lost in every state they were on the ballot, including Kentucky where they were crushed.
Note five: Also in Kentucky, voters elected the first Black woman to the state Supreme Court, moving the court to the left a bit. More: WKYT
Note six: DA Fani Willis won re-election even though the Trump goons did everything they could to mess her up. More: AJC
Note seven: Ruben Gallego is probably going to be a Senator. Kari Lake is not. And Kyrsten Sinema is gone. So that’s all good. More: AP News
Note eight: Andy Kim, a truly decent human being, is also going to be a U.S. Senator. So that’s nice. More: AP News
Note nine: The woman in North Carolina who wanted Obama executed lost her race to led the state’s schools. More: HuffPost
Note 10: Ok, that’s all we’ve got for now. We could still win the House, but we’re dead inside and don’t believe in possibility anymore. Ok so that’s not true, but this really hurts. We just want y’all to know that we’re not going anywhere. We might take some days off, but we’re going to keep doing what we’ve always done — point and laugh at fascist idiots. We hope you’ll stay with us. Love y’all.
History!
So this is a piece of good news in the U.S. Senate even though we lost the upper chamber. Maryland’s Angela Alsobrooks and Delaware’s Lisa Blunt Rochester are both going to be United States Senators. They are also Black women. This is the first time the Senate has ever had two Black women serve at the same time. But they are also only the fourth and fifth Black women senators this country has ever had.

Russia, Russia, Russia
Putin did everything he could to help Trump win, including spending yesterday calling in bomb threats to Black precincts and election offices in key swing states around the country. Busy Black precincts in Georgia seemed to get the brunt of it. And Putin will get away with it all because he just bought the U.S. presidency. Again. Fuck!

Sigh
Trump won, and he won by a big margin. He ran an outwardly racist, sexist, idiotic campaign, and that’s what this fucked up country decided it wanted. We could have had decency and freedom and hope and instead we got the dumbest, meanest piece of shit on the fucking planet. There will be attempts to blame Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, but the truth is they ran a great campaign and this is just who we are as a country. We’re not the good guys we thought we were. We’re not as smart or decent as we thought we were. We’re bad and about to get much worse. That’s why it’s so important the good people don’t give up. Now let’s just hope and pray Trump doesn’t kill us all. Hang in there, Sexy Patriots. At least you’ve still got us.

Today’s clips
On a day his old boss achieved victory, Rudy Giuliani lost badly in terms of optics. The former New York City mayor pulled up to Donald Trump’s voting place Tuesday in a fancy Mercedes convertible that he’s been ordered to fork over to the Georgia election workers he falsely accused of cheating in 2020, the New York Post reported. Delaware state Sen. Sarah McBride won the state’s only House seat Tuesday, NBC News projects, making her the first openly transgender person elected to Congress. More: NBC
Henry Kissinger Requested a Monument in Arlington National Cemetery. He Won’t Get One. More: Politico
Are we completely sure everything is legit? NC flipped blue down ballot but not at the top of the ticket? Dems overperformed in every election since Dobbs but somehow underperformed badly this time, even when abortion was on the ballot? Women voted in droves in their anger against being stripped of their rights but somehow Trump won white women? Races that were supposed to be nailbiters were won decisively by the Republican candidate? Trump, who's never won the popular vote, somehow won it after 1/6, 35 convictions, being an adjudicated rapist, and in clear cognitive decline? More Republicans said they were voting for Harris, his rallies were increasingly small, Puerto Ricans were furious, but he won the popular vote? I don't buy it, especially since we know Putin and billionaires like Musk have been hard at work undermining our elections.
A slight majority of U.S. voters chose the s***show. Perhaps things will get so bad America will come to its senses (if free and fair elections are held again). Alternatively, this may be the end of the American Dream (and American empire). If so, we can rename the country Oligarchistan and China can become the new star. The lamestream, corporate press did journalism, the truth and themselves no favors with their sanewashing of trump. The potent mix of racism, ignorance and cult of personality fueling the MAGA movement are difficult to counter by responsible and rational forces, obviously. Regardless, will be interesting to see what happens, especially when the cult leader leaves the stage. And interesting to see what happens when so many of those misinformed trump voters see what happens that makes their lives worse because the oligarchs are the ones being given the benefits by the new administration (and Congress). Being white and okay financially makes things easier for me, although I still have to live on this planet (and care about it and the people on it). The oligarchs don’t seem to realize that they, too, have to live on this planet, and that their money won’t protect them and their families from man-caused climate change or protect them (forever) from the coming social unrest. Fascism and religious extremism are fickle, as many trump voters will find out. It’s non-whites and other “minority” groups (race, sexual orientation, etc.) who will suffer the most under trumpism. Regardless of what their life is like, anyone who didn’t vote for Harris deserves no sympathy. It has been too obvious for too long for anyone not to be aware of what a terrible human being trump is. To everyone who voted for Harris, I recommend resisting as best you can, while also taking care of yourself. Perhaps resistance won’t do much, but a certainty is that not resisting will ensure that things get worse.
