This Jimmy Kimmel Graphic Hasn’t Gone Viral Yet, But it Should
Economic data can be best shown in charts, though it’s rare for those charts to become graphics for late night comedy shows…
We don’t know whether to laugh or cry in response to this graphic from Jimmy Kimmel Live. We knew he had some of the most talented writers in late night comedy, but now it appears his graphic design team deserves a raise, too.
Check out this masterpiece:
Oops. That’s not the graphic created by Jimmy Kimmel’s team – it’s an image from The New York Times with data from markets in Germany, China, the U.K., Canada, the United States, and Japan showing how these countries’ respective markets have performed during Trump’s second term. While all countries’ markets have fared poorly, the U.S. has taken much more of a hit than each of the countries on the chart, with the exception of Japan.
More telling: Trump’s biggest target of his tariff and the country is China. Over the past week, he has gone back and forth with Beijing, adding new tariffs on Beijing in the past week – not based on any economic data or expert analysis – but because of his mood. How has the Chinese economy performed under Trump’s presidency? It’s markets have dropped nearly 5 percent compared to a ~17 percent drop in the U.S. economy.
Trump placed tariffs on other countries in order to hurt their economies relative to ours, but his tariffs have thus far hurt the U.S. significantly more than they hurt Germany, China, the U.K., and Canada. (For Germany, tariffs placed on the European Union apply).
Regarding Germany, Trump’s recklessness in relations with Europe has been a boon for European defense manufacturers and hurt American ones. It turns out that when you insult an entire continent and do the bidding of a war criminal who threatens that continent, countries on that continent will no longer trust you to make the weapons its militaries need.
Now that we’ve shown you that chart, here’s the Jimmy Kimmel Live graphic:
Okay, now is when we don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Stock market drops around the world this year definitely resemble Trump’s wispy, dyed hair. The comparison of the two images definitely evoked laughter from Kimmel’s audience.

Thank you all for sharing this and posting to social! Love y’all!
Trump has gone where no one dares. Truly he doesn’t know what he is doing.
From my school days a long time ago.
“Fools go where angels fear to tread.”
We will be a long time getting over this economic blunder. This is Trump’s legacy.
