Good Morning All, speaking of counties I would recommend the book White Rural Rage. These folks feel they have been put down by the elites in this country, they rage about it and somehow Donald has picked up on this rage while praising the rural country life..they love him…he hates the same people as they do. My question and the fundamental question in the book is why do we as a nation hold up those values over urban values..what makes rural life so righteous that we must give way to their character?
You (and the book) must have come to some conclusions about the urban/rural political divide. Mine would be Reagan’s success in turning middle and low income voters against the “others” taking taxes in the welfare state (so called socialism) and the loss of good paying jobs after the Clinton/NAFTA deal.
Mike you are correct in terms of conclusions reached in this book which I agree. You cite an excellent contributing factors such as Reagan, loss of blue collar jobs, rust belt… all these factors have contributed to the rural- urban lifestyles… I do think resentment plays a significant factor in this equation… rural folks resent urban culture, federal government, diversity, anyone who is not white and Christian… Trumps target audience.
