"Musk: I mean, have you Tim Walz, who is a huge jerk, running on stage with the Tesla stock price.. What an evil thing to do. What a creep, what a jerk. Like who derives joy from that?"
Brought to you by the Department of I Can Dish It Out But Can't Take It. Maybe his mommy will go beat up that mean Tim Walz. Jay-sus...such an 'alpha' male.
It truly hurts me to say this, but Elon, and his pet, Donnie, are right. Donnie was the most conspicuous and idiotic jerk in the world in 2016. And he got himself elected president of this country. That was when he gave us every possible indication that he was an inveterate liar, an idiot, and 100% self-focused. Once he spent four years proving it, he got more votes in '20 than he did in '16. He didn't win, because Biden got enough more. But he won again, with even more votes, in '24. Brian Cohen likes to say that Republicans have no greater disdain than they do for their own base, and he's right. But their base don't ever seem to get it.
Look at your "He thinks he can call us parasites" paragraph, and the end of the one before. He's right. Everyone who receives left wing e-mails is being deluged for money, because of Elon's "money bomb" in Wisconsin. Because everyone knows Elons money bombs work. The public are that stupid.
Look at your "When you fire tens of thousands" paragraph. The VA isn't getting those people back. They'll have found something else, and they won't trust government not to throw them under a bus. Elon is right. And in your next paragraph, when you say "Elon doesn't understand us," yes, he does. WE don't understand us. We don't realize, and can't admit, how weak and malleable we are. How susceptible we are to people like Elon, Donnie, Cheney/W, Reagan. We'll believe the stupidest and most outrageous shit in the world, because someone authoritatively tells it to us. In every primary, there are 1%ers who drop out, because they get no traction with the public. How do you explain why Donnie wasn't one of them? And he proved incontrovertibly that the worst things anyone could possibly have said about him were true. He told us they were true: he could walk down 5th Ave in NYC, shoot someone dead, and not lose support. He knows us. Elon knows us. We're the ones who don't know us.
Note: 2020 election turnout higher than 2024. The party of the non-voter 'won' in 2024. Educating the public on civics and the importance of We The People voting would help in ALL elections.
We need everyone voting (as is mandatory in some countries), voting day to be a national holiday (no work), and not on a Tuesday, sort of in the middle of everyone's week.
As someone sitting on the outside looking in, I tend to disagree; mandatory voting would put the US on the same platform as Russia, and other autocratic and oligarchic countries. And if it got to that level, there wouldn’t be many voters with actual choices. Hence, I find that solution to what ails the US unlikely to deliver the results that you are pursuing. The cause of the Repugnicans soaring popularity, may be directly correlated to the number of red states that harbor an uneducated population. Derailing your educational system didn’t happen overnight, it has been deeply embedded in the GOP mindset and that mindset was front and centre in Project 2025. Trump abolishing the DoE was a direct order from those who control him in order to perpetuate and support the ideal of an ignorant and uninformed citizenry. And isn’t Trump the perfect embodiment of that assault on education. He can barely articulate a complete sentence that doesn’t sound like a 7-yr. old. Until the US actually supports education as a foundational quality, the reading ability of the average adult will not rise above grade 7 reading comprehension.
CAM, everyone voting doesn't mean everyone choosing a candidate. You can sign a ballot and not choose anyone. I commonly don't vote for judges, because what do I know about these judges? I'm a medical doctor. I don't spend my days in court evaluating judges. But if you're required to go to the polls, or even if excuses like "I had a really busy work day" are removed as the reason you couldn't do it, then I think people would make more of a commitment. You're going to get one or the other, so your only power is to choose one. You could disagree with me, or you could point out that I just told you I don't attempt to research judges about whom I know nothing, so why would anyone bother to think through two candidates for any office, neither of whom moves them.
Are you intimating that if you submit a signed ballot with no X or ✅ on anyone category, that your ballot would be considered? Might I be so bold as to ask under which column would it be counted : incomplete, partially completed or completed.
I'm not intimating. I'm telling you something. A ballot with blanks is "complete" if it's signed by the voter.
I'll give you an example from the municipality where I live in the Miami area. Every two years, we elect three of five Commissioners. In the general election years, the turnout is much higher than the off/midterm years. Not everyone feels like voting for Commissioners, and not all of the three Commissioners whose terms are up get the same number of votes. One winner could get 600 votes, and another winner could get 250 votes. We call those "undervotes." Sometimes, it's strategic: I want Steve to win, but I don't want Mike or Sarah or any others of the choices to win. So I'm only voting for Steve. Maybe everyone votes for president and/or Senator, but not for Commissioner, or for judges, or for other things. Or not everyone votes for president, or other offices or referendum questions. You sign your voting page, you check what you want, you put it in the machine, and it's done.
It's true that Biden went back on his pledge to be a "bridge president (one term)," and Harris made the horrible mistake of saying repeatedly and publicly that she wouldn't do anything different from Biden, but if you look at it in a certain way, who on earth would have voted for Donnie, the complete loser and moron?
My belief at this time in light of what I have learned about voter suppression and purging is that a high percentage of “non-voters” were prevented from voting or their votes were not counted and therefore the ‘number of voters’ isn’t accurate.
No, not "us." It's them. Elom knows trump's cult members are racist and ignorant, and he also despises them. He knows his blatant racism doesn't bother any of them. And, they're stupid enough to believe musk is smart because he's rich. Never mind how he became rich and fat from sucking on billions worth of federal contracts. And, what exactly did Elom do to help trump "win" all seven swing states? trump claimed that Elom sure "knows those computers" at a post election hate-rally. I guess will never really know, but a few election experts have questioned some of the results. I've never had any illusions about how hateful and bigoted trumpturds are, they have always been around, and always will be. These people may start to care when it's THEIR benefits being fucked with. We shall see.
Elon and Donnie's cult don't really care about each other. Elon cares about money, and Donnie's cult don't care about anything (except the costs they couldn't afford, and which are getting higher, which of course will somehow be Biden's fault).
I agree with you that both Donnie and his cult sustain the fantasy that anyone with as much money as Elon has must be smart. Elon could lose or give away 90% of his money and never miss it. It's a number, not an amount of money.
Any sentence that starts with "Trump claimed" or "Trump said" is a sentence not worth finishing. And as you rightly say, no one would know anyway. Questioning something, which Donnie and his goons do constantly, is a very far cry from proving anything.
Yup, you've hit the nail on the head, and it's already being reflected in Rep/con complaints to Rep/con electeds: once they find themselves downwind of the destruction, which is essential that they do, they are then able to comprehend what we've tried unsuccessfully to warn them about. Everybody's going to get hurt. We're going to get hurt. And that injury is what has already led to some unexpected special election results, and will be sweeping in '26. I'm sorry for all of our injury, and, in a twisted way, for theirs, but it's the only way they'll get it.
And as soon as we get Dem electeds who will raise taxes on the rich and corporations, they will learn that no, they can't just take, and have, whatever they want at the expense of everyone else. Obama didn't have the nerve, and neither did Biden. Someone will.
Anecdotal evidence: Canadians and Europeans have historically said about Americans that “they hate to pay taxes” - no national health care, Trump cutting all of Biden’s social (oops) programs, and anything connected to helping out the least fortunate amongst you speaks eloquently to this projection. Dems will be hard pressed to keep up this stance. Although I commend all who want taxes raised on the likes of Bezos, Elmo, Zuckerberg et al, there are so many more who really do not feel that they share this view of their world. Biden and Harris tried the seismic shift and it simply didn’t have the effect of connecting with those of lesser means. I’m waiting with bated breath for the WI Supreme Court decision. 🤞.
It's certainly true that Americans particularly hate paying taxes. This springs from their disregard for other people. And as you say, they don't care whom they hurt.
The problem with Biden, and with Obama four years earlier, was that neither of them raised taxes on the rich and corporations, and they just let the deficit keep getting higher. In a sense, the worse result was that they essentially reassured the rich (the beneficiaries of unreasonably low taxation) that they could have whatever they wanted, even if it had no meaning. So I agree with you that Biden had important social programs, but he didn't pay for them, and he continued to enable the rich not to pay for them. As did Obama in both of his terms, and especially his second, when he could have done whatever he wanted.
For interesting contrast, and depending on how old you are and how much you know about US politics, Eisenhower, who was the Allied Commanding General in WWII, and a Republican, got elected president twice, beginning in 1952. The highest tax rates in his terms were in the 90s%, and he used that money to try to re-elevate the American economy after the war, but also to begin building the interstate highway system. Today, he would written off as a "RINO." He also warned us to "beware the military-industrial complex," which is a helluva warning from the highest general the Allies had. Pentagon contractors had enough campaign donation money to persuade Congress not to take Eisenhower's advice.
Yes, we're all waiting to see how WI turns out. FL, too. But even when we win, the margins are way too tight, although Dems who have won special elections have done it in deep red areas. So the swing is very wide, even if the victory is narrow.
My dad was a dual citizen but lost his American one when he served in the Canadian military in his early 20’s, and most of my paternal family is American, and yes I’m fairly well versed in US politics having wintered in the US for 10 years as well as sharing my DNA with multiple US citizens.
not sure your supposition is correct that "those people" wouldn't go back to the VA if offered to do so; or that being deluged for money for "left wing" causes means everyone thinks money bombs are a good idea, or even ethical. Personally I'm proud af of Wisconsin for keeping MORE Elon money out of a (nonpartisan ffs) Supreme Court justice race and I hope they throw the ahole in jail.
I'm certainly not in a position to guarantee that no one would go back to a job. It depends on how long they've been out of that job, if they've found another job, whether the other job has better benefits, and whether or not they're willing to trust the government not to do this again. I'm just supposing that before long, people will find something else, and be unlikely to take the risk of going back. You can disagree, and suppose I'm probably wrong.
I only get e-mail from left wing candidates and causes. I imagine other people get right wing requests. Donnie sends out requests for money to pay his lawyers. I never see that mail. I think private money in politics, and protracted campaign seasons, are crushing, and they totally corrupt all of American politics. I'd like to see much shorter campaign seasons and no private money in politics.
I don't know what would be the mechanism of keeping Elon's money, which can be turned "dark," out of WI campaigns. I just know I've been reading many references to Elon's money-bombing this election. Maybe you're saying nothing I read is true. But again, what is the mechanism to keep the money out?
peter, it sounds from your reply that you don't know what traction means. If we take Donnie as an example, we have a large stature male who presents himself as having business acumen, and endless self-confidence, and this engages the voters. That's traction. The fact that he's grossly immature, an inveterate liar, entirely self-focused, and says preposterous things means nothing to the people who have reflexly developed confidence in him. If you think traction is the wrong word for that, or that another word would be better or somehow more accurate, you're welcome to propose it. I agree with you that people who speak any language, with its idioms and common interpretations, are using words and phrases that they heard others use. I generally think of that as learning a language and its uses.
You might consider the same issue regarding the men who married Marilyn Monroe. Her appearance gave her traction with men, as did her deficiencies and dependence. Was she a great wife to any of them? No. But there was something there that led them to propose to her and agree to marry her when she said "yes."

I should add that my son was just here visiting. We were talking about the difference between right wing strategies and left wing strategies. Left wingers think everyone should do the right thing, and assume they will. They talk about norms. Right wingers specialize in marketing, and they figure out who is their target, and what their target wants, and wants to hear. Right wingers don't have to mean it. They just have to say it, to the right groups at the right time. The results speak for themselves.
I attended a Tesla dealership boycott today. My sign said, “Elon & Felon must/k go.” The t and k were one letter. The intersection was huge and very busy. Lots of protesters. It felt great to be with others and “doing” something.

Exactly what I was going to say! Thanks!
My money is on Tim Walz in a Tim v Douchey McDouceface dodgeball game. This might be a good way to raise a billion dollars
Now THAT I'd pay to see!
This is a great essay. Thanks for the pep talk! I can’t protest today but I’m getting a big group together for April 5. Let’s gooooo
Wah, wah, wah … poor “Melvin Leon Elon” 😢😭🤣😂
I promise LOTS of us “derive joy” from this!!🪚⚙️👏🏽
$300 million — and counting — to buy the 2024 Federal Presidential and the 2025 Wisconsin Supreme Court elections.
300 million dollars and absolutely no cents / sense. 😡🧾💰🤯

OMG! Thanks for the laugh, BC! I needed that! 😂👏👏

I’m guessing that Kanye Musk wouldn’t need his little “pity party” if Walz had just used a chainsaw to pretend he was slashing Tesla stock values.
