Are we completely sure everything is legit? NC flipped blue down ballot but not at the top of the ticket? Dems overperformed in every election since Dobbs but somehow underperformed badly this time, even when abortion was on the ballot? Women voted in droves in their anger against being stripped of their rights but somehow Trump won white women? Races that were supposed to be nailbiters were won decisively by the Republican candidate? Trump, who's never won the popular vote, somehow won it after 1/6, 35 convictions, being an adjudicated rapist, and in clear cognitive decline? More Republicans said they were voting for Harris, his rallies were increasingly small, Puerto Ricans were furious, but he won the popular vote? I don't buy it, especially since we know Putin and billionaires like Musk have been hard at work undermining our elections.

Based on what the results were in Pennsylvania at 21:45 ET, it seems like something screwy happened in the final count there. Harris won some major counties there, not including Philadelphia…. I am not trusting the results there, nor do I believe that trump has won the popular vote: That seems like a manufactured result to soothe trump’s big-baby ego for having lost the popular vote in 2016 and 2020.

I might be crazy, but I’ll believe that there has been mayhem here for the rest of my life.

Apparently Trump really pushed to bring the redneck, toxic, male never voters out of the rural counties but I agree that it just doesn’t seem like it could be enough. I was also hearing that Latino men (many anyway) were going to Trump. Hard to fathom.

Pfff. He is as good as neutered now. SCOTUS saw to that. He will be gone. Jack Smith needs to leave the country before January. All agencies & cabinet positions will be manned by unqualified loyalists if the agencies are not disbanded altogether. Welcome to our new reality, especially if Trump gets to keep the House AND the Senate. RFK Jr will tank our healthcare. Leon will tank our economy “for our own good”.

A slight majority of U.S. voters chose the s***show. Perhaps things will get so bad America will come to its senses (if free and fair elections are held again). Alternatively, this may be the end of the American Dream (and American empire). If so, we can rename the country Oligarchistan and China can become the new star. The lamestream, corporate press did journalism, the truth and themselves no favors with their sanewashing of trump. The potent mix of racism, ignorance and cult of personality fueling the MAGA movement are difficult to counter by responsible and rational forces, obviously. Regardless, will be interesting to see what happens, especially when the cult leader leaves the stage. And interesting to see what happens when so many of those misinformed trump voters see what happens that makes their lives worse because the oligarchs are the ones being given the benefits by the new administration (and Congress). Being white and okay financially makes things easier for me, although I still have to live on this planet (and care about it and the people on it). The oligarchs don’t seem to realize that they, too, have to live on this planet, and that their money won’t protect them and their families from man-caused climate change or protect them (forever) from the coming social unrest. Fascism and religious extremism are fickle, as many trump voters will find out. It’s non-whites and other “minority” groups (race, sexual orientation, etc.) who will suffer the most under trumpism. Regardless of what their life is like, anyone who didn’t vote for Harris deserves no sympathy. It has been too obvious for too long for anyone not to be aware of what a terrible human being trump is. To everyone who voted for Harris, I recommend resisting as best you can, while also taking care of yourself. Perhaps resistance won’t do much, but a certainty is that not resisting will ensure that things get worse.

I am white and okay because I am very disciplined financially. But I am also a cancer survivor dependent on Medicare & Soc Sec. I can’t go back to work especially with Covid endemic now thanks to Trump. And I was blessed to not get a critical illness until I had retired and gone on Medicare. Otherwise I would be bankrupt now. And I still have to pay for a supplemental health plan, dental, Medicare co-ins, etc. It’s a big chunk of social sec but at least I was able to get the care I needed without losing everything.

Inflation really hit people on fixed incomes hard because we had nothing to balance it out other than doing without, eating less healthy. My doctor said she saw so many elderly patients buying less food. But then the GOP wants us to just die anyway since we can’t breed. We’re a drain on resources. I certainly didn’t blame Biden for it. I blamed greedy corporations who saw an opportunity. This is a cruel country respectful of nothing but money.

Trump and Project 2025 won’t have to cut very deeply into medicare and social security to throw the elders into a death spiral. Many are already living on a knife’s edge. But what little extra I have goes to conservation charities trying to save this planet. That is my resistance. I have no f***s left to give for stupid humans.

Look how quickly universities and businesses like Tractor Supply jumped to can DEI hiring because of Trump, and he wasn’t even in power. It was all fake, all forced all along. I have 0 sympathy. It is Stephen Miller’s world now. I worked for too long in a corporate America where women were humored more than respected.

Rudy didn't lose shit, trump will make sure he pays them NOTHING. To keep trump happy Georgia will remove Fani Willis as DA, and you know it. Abortion rights will be lost when they pass a law making it illegal in the US. Plus there is a worm going to be in charge of health in the country. All our most sensitive secrets will now be Putin's for the taking.

Sorry, I'm not doing very well and we could still lose the house.

I hate falling into conspiracy thinking, but I can't help it here. None of this makes sense. A Red Wave in the face of one of the most foul, bigoted Republican presentations ever seen? A landslide win for a guy who makes Nixon look like a saint and is demented to boot? Yeah, I believe there was something nefarious going on here, I think Elon Musk stole the election for Donnie with his bribes and antics. And within maybe 6 months, JD Vance will invoke the 25th Amendment because Donnie is clearly senile, and then we get a guy with less than 2 years of political experience and no settled personaity, a veteran flip-flopper who is proud of lying to prejudice voters or "create an issue" as our Commander in Chief. I think that was Project 2025's plot all along.

Are we living in a world where Truth and Facts are no longer relevant?

This is also my theory. I don't think the "powers that be" actually want Trump, I think they want Vance. Vance is young, SMART, and completely amoral with a nice religious family man patina. Trump will not complete his term, one way or another.

In the Atlantic, Tom Nichols wrote the election taught him thar “performative, feel-good” campaigns can’t win. I don't know about the feel-good part, but his comments ignores the mass of hard work thousands of people put into the Harris campaign. On the other hand, Trump**’s campaign was nearly all performative. He put most of the money he raised into legal defense, had almost no ground organization, relied on performative accusations against the Biden economy and immigration policy, and relied on vibes against a female candidate, accusing her of weakness in the face of the autocrats he will grovel before. The man is all vibes and performance. Seems that performative, feel-bad campaigning is the ticket to success.

I sobbed for the women, children, BIPOC, immigrants, impoverished, working class, unions, seniors, LGBTQ, and everyone else whose lives will get adversely impacted or completely ruined by this man. If I were a young woman, I would 💯 move to a different country. Hunting season is coming. F Trump and everyone who supports him.

I went thru that over Hillary. Literally my entire body started shaking like I was going into shock that night. I just could not believe our country could be that stupid. So when I saw the way the wind was blowing last night I turned it off to save myself.

And yeah I would have moved in 2016 if I could but it’s requires a huge pot of "investment funds” especially if you are retired. Understandable. They don’t want people coming in and taking their resources while putting nothing back into their systems. Might be easier if you can prove heritage and get double citizenship. Might be able to get a long term visa. Not sure about that. I happened across a wapo commenter years ago who had moved to France when she was 62. Loved it. Never regretted it. But, as I said, I think you have to prove certain resources to get in.

Okay last comment. I am obsessing just a tad. In 2020, Biden won with 81,284,666 votes versus Trump at 74,224,319. Trump got fewer votes this time: Trump 71,527,867 versus Harris at 66,671,671. Who was voting this time?

I'm obsessing too. With record registrations and turnout, 20 million fewer people voted in 2024 than in 2020. This seems incredibly unlikely.

I kept hearing turnouts were actually below Biden’s in key swing states so someone wasn’t understanding the risk. My money is on males for the most part, and some trad wives, who can’t grow up and understand a woman can do the job. Even Bob Woodward said in an interview the night before that the general(s) talked about how surprisingly tough she is.

This is the crux of the matter. Trump voters voted for Trump, but not enough Democrats came out for Kamala. Why? The WaPo says it’s a “stinging verdict for the left”….but really it’s a stinging verdict for more-of-the-same catering to corporate status quo politics….not left enough. Not a promise to keep Lena Kahn. Not a guarantee to push MFA. Not change much of anything, when the rising generation is feeling hopelessly left out. The Middle East war surely dampened enthusiasm, but that alone doesn’t explain it. I voted for her, but many voters who might have done so sat this out. Not enough listened to Bernie Sanders last week.

Cyn B's avatar

There are too many voters, particularly younger voters, who are very idealistic and can’t quite grasp that sometimes you have to pick the lesser of 2 evils, not that Kamala is evil at all, but they want some elusive perfect candidate that doesn’t exist...and they are killing this country because we outnumber the bozos when we vote.
