You know, lunafaer, I always say that in my experience, on the average, women are smarter than men. And this is at least one reason why: they have maternal instincts, nesting instincts, or something, and they have to take more into account than men do.
I think you’re correct but I’d leave out maternal and nesting instincts and just say that women have good instincts, they’re perceptive, good multitaskers and incredibly resourceful.
Females/girls are socialized to act as if they're not as smart as males/boys. Several decades ago, someone did a study of school girls learning math. They found that when the girls were in all girl classes, they learned math perfectly well. The other group were in co-ed (girl and boy) classes, and in that setting, the girls didn't learn math as well as did the boys. Just last week, my son's girlfriend (mid 40s) recalled that when she was in school, there was one boy who strained at raising his hand to answer questions, and said to the girls that they weren't as smart as he was, because they were girls. It's very much like the African Americans who say they have to work twice as hard to get half as much credit as the Caucasians do. There was a movie about African American female mathematicians who were generally disrespected, despite their excellent and critical work in the space program. It was called "Hidden Figures," and it was about the '50s or '60s.

It was expected that we would marry young and forego any advanced studies. It took me a while to catch on to the double standard, but when I did, I did it the hard way.
